Virtual Speaker Series – STEM East Network
Make plans to join us on July 9th at 10:00 a.m. via Microsoft Teams for our next Speaker Series event featuring STEM East. We’ll hear how STEM East collaborates with regional businesses, school districts, economic development offices, and others to engage students across our region in real-world STEM learning opportunities.
STEM East, based in Greenville, NC, develops networks through the collaborative efforts of regional businesses, school districts, economic development municipalities, private foundations, state and local government, and many others.
STEM East aims to engage students across our region in real-world STEM learning opportunities that align with career opportunities in Eastern North Carolina. Their industry partners are focused on developing a work-ready labor pool by collaborating with regional school districts to create a crib-to-career pathway. They also provide essential support for Teachers Work and Kenan Fellowships.
STEM East was awarded a $15 million appropriation from state lawmakers to continue developing their new STEM East “Industry In Schools” initiative as a public/private partnership with industry to support the development of a new K-14 teacher training system in the growing region. This funding is awarded for the 2023-2025 biennium. According to the announcement, 29 school systems and 10 community colleges have developed a “working alliance” with NC East that will reside at the intersection of education, economic development, and workforce development. The goal is to strengthen the talent pipeline by transforming how rural America develops, attracts, and retains a local workforce.
Speakers: Trey Goodson, David Lewis, Donna Phillips
