Southeast Crescent Regional Commission Visits Greene County
The Southeast Crescent Regional Commission (SCRC) visited Greene County and toured Precision Graphics, a local electronics manufacturer that produces automated robotic utility carts. The group saw first-hand how a high-tech industry can thrive in a rural setting.
Next, Trey Cash, the Economic Development Director for Lenoir and Greene Counties, presented Greene County’s economy, demographics, and challenges.
Also, Dr. Frank Creech and Dr. Jose Garcia, from Greene County Schools, presented the successes, current initiatives, and future goals of the School’s award-winning STEM program.
Following the presentation, the group traveled to Contentnea Farms to see the economic impacts on a local agribusiness. Agriculture is still eastern NC’s most significant industry, so this topic is very important to Greene County.
The Southeast Crescent Regional Commission (SCRC) is a federal-state partnership established by the U.S. Congress to foster economic development and improve the quality of life in the Southeast Crescent region. This region encompasses 428 counties across seven states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
We are honored to have hosted the SCRC in Greene County and believe this visit will strengthen our county’s ties with this important regional organization.
