EDR and NCGTP Staff Attend the Defense Industrial Supply Chain (DISC) Summit

On October 29-30, Mark Pope, president of the EDR, along with Amanda Conner and Gage King from the North Carolina Global TransPark, attended the Defense Industrial Supply Chain (DISC) Summit at the Harris Conference Center in Charlotte, NC. This event is organized by the offices of US Senators Thom Tillis and Ted Budd, the North Carolina Military Business Center (NCMBC), and the North Carolina Defense Technology Transition Office (DEFTECH).

At the summit, the team networked with contractors, suppliers, and service providers from the defense aerospace, ground vehicle, maritime, and armaments sectors. Their goal is to promote the many assets of the North Carolina Global TransPark Economic Development Region, which include a strong labor force, existing aerospace industries, ample transportation access, defense business initiatives, and the Global TransPark’s 11,500-foot runway.

Keynote speakers at DISC include:

  • Machelle Baker Sanders, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Commerce  
  • Scott Sendmeyer, Acting Director for Policy, Analysis, and Transition at the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy  
  • Robert W. Watts, Deputy Director of the Contested Logistics Cross-Functional Team, US Army Futures Command  
  • Donald L. Schulze, Deputy Director of Land Supplier Operations at the Defense Logistics Agency, Land and Maritime  

During the summit, attendees will also tour GM Defense’s Manufacturing and Customer Innovation Center (MCIC) and Hendrick Motorsports, highlighting the connection between North Carolina industries, innovation, and the Defense Industrial Supply Chain.
